Business Tips – Is your business ready for Christmas break?

17th December 2019 |

Closing down for the Christmas break or operating with skeleton staff?
Here are some tips for business owners to make sure you can also have an enjoyable break and hopefully avoid any problems.
1. Set up auto reply on your email addresses advising the period your business will be closed and when it will reopen.
2. If you have an answering machine, update your message to also include the closing time and when your business will reopen.
3. Make sure you let your customers know how they can contact you if they really need to.
4. If there are any bills that are due during the Christmas break, make sure you schedule their payment in advance or make the payments before the break.
5. Make sure that there is enough funds in your bank account to cover any scheduled payments/direct debits during the Christmas break.
6. With the introduction of Single Touch Payroll, unfortunately wages will still need to be processed and submitted with the ATO as they are physically made. To prepare and to save time, prepare draft pay runs for the Christmas break pay periods and set up scheduled payments with your bank in advance. This way, on the days the wages are due, all you need to do is access your online accounting software, post the pay runs and submit with the ATO while the bank will automatically transfer the amounts to your employees at the nominated date.
7. Ensure your business’s antivirus and related programs are all operating and up to date.
8. Ensure all passwords are strong and consider changing before you go on break.
9. Be wary of email payment scams.

Have a great Christmas break from all of us here at CrossCorp!
