Deductions for specific industries & occupations

19th March 2019 |

Claiming work related deductions reduces one’s tax payable – and it is human nature to want to claim as much as you can.

Whilst we’ve previously written about claiming items such as the work related usage of a mobile phone, internet and home office, depending on your work industry, there may be other work related expenses that you have never been aware of.

To be able to assist tax payers in determining deductible work related expenses, the ATO has provided a list of occupations and their likely work related deductions.

Some of the occupations are:

  • Building and construction employees
  • Cleaners
  • Medical Professionals
  • Electricians
  • Engineers
  • Hairdressers
  • Lawyers
  • Sales and marketing employees
  • Tradespersons and
  • Education professionals

Don’t see your occupation listed above? Click on the ATO’s website https://www.ato.gov.au/Individuals/Income-and-deductions/Deductions-you-can-claim/Deductions-for-specific-industries-and-occupations/ for the complete list.

Remember to be mindful of substantiation – even though a deduction may be available, you still need to determine if you are eligible to claim.

Give CrossCorp a call so we can assist you with your work related deductions this year.
